Wellesbourne’s 100% win rate at home against Itchington continued as Itchington found themselves in pole position at tea like the year before but then finished the game second best again.
Clarke won the toss on another gorgeous day and Wellesbourne were asked to bat first.
Joel Bennett and Andy Wood have established themselves as the new reliable opening pair and a tight 20 overs with 5 maidens and 3 wickets meant Wellesbourne found themselves 50-3 off 20.
Butler, Aulakh and Smith were the change bowlers for Itchington and wickets kept coming, Smith particularly bowling well as he took 4 wickets for 27 in his 8 overs.
Good knocks from Barnett (36), Wheeler (29), Butcher (27) and Stephenson (18 not out) meant Wellesbourne recorded an under par 175 off their 45 overs.
Another lovely tea was taken and praise was given to the fantastic bowling and fielding display produced by Itchington.
Due to Alex Jacks absence John Lidster and Matt Goatley opened the batting. Goatley got off to a positive start but then was caught in the covers for 7. The scorecard after that doesn’t make very good reading as no one managed to build a partnership with Lidster who batted superbly in his knock of 40.
Good bowling from Itchington meant Itchington were all out for 125. Stephenson being the pick of the bowlers finishing 10-3-40-4.
Wellesbourne win by 50 runs.
Itchington look to get back to winning ways next week (16th June) at home to Shipston.
