Itchington’s fine end to season was capped off by beating runners up Norton Lindsey on Saturday to make them victorious in the last 5 out of 6 games . Clarke won the toss and chose to bat on potentially the best looking wicket of the season.

Norton knowing a win could potentially see them lift the Premier league title found it hard to settle into the game as John Lidster and Alex Jack played with freedom. The opening ten overs saw Itchington dominate and Itchington had raced to 66 from 60 balls. Captain Pyatt decided to change his bowling attack with R. Blyth and Dewar coming on.

Itchington continued to flow but Norton got the breakthrough as Dewar sneaked one through Lidsters (23) defence with the score on 72.

Matt Goatley joined Jack at the crease and in 7 overs another 62 runs were added before Jack edged behind for another stunning 56.

The runs kept coming and Goatley was showing his aggressive side by punishing anything loose from the Norton attack and he was well supported by Burnell who was timing the ball impeccably but Goatley fell driving one too many for 46. Perks lasted one ball longer than the week before but Cooper and Burnell frustrated the Norton attack by taking singles and demolishing the bad ball.

With 10 overs to go Itchington were well placed for 300 as they were on 224 for 4. Cooper went for 29 and Burnell was caught in the deep for 57. Dodds (12) and Clarke (13) chipped in as Itchington reached their highest score of the season finishing on 286-9.

Itchington still with a job to do got off to the best start possible as Pozzi edged behind for 0 off Wood and Burnell clean bowled other opener Green for 0.

Norton in all kinds of trouble with the score on 2-2 but Shephard had other ideas and throughout the Norton innings he showed his class. Skipper Pyatt was also doing damage and Itchington had to be on their game. The breakthrough came in the 15th over with the score on 81 as Wood bowled a peach of an in swinger to dislodge the skippers bails for 41.

Blyth (28) and Cook (23) supported Shephard as he continued to control the Innings. Ten overs to go and Norton needing 87 to win. Enter Rawbone who got out the right side of the bed as he bowled Cook, had Lacey caught behind for one and then the big wicket of Shepherd for a superb 83.

McInnes at the the end was still smashing the ball about in a quick-fire 31 but he ran out of partners as Tom Cooper bowled Nortons last man for 6.

A great finish to the season saw Itchington finish 5th. Clarke was full of praise for his players and the night consisted of beers and Indian food.
